Wells/BarkervilleWellsPark your car and walk. This cozy mining town is as friendly now as it was in its heyday in the 1930’s. Browse through historic ‘uptown’ Wells, once a company townsite for the Cariboo gold Quartz Mine with its many unique heritage buildings. Located minutes away from Barkerville Historic Town, western North America's premiere heritage attraction and a half-an-hour's drive from Bowron Lakes Provincial Park, voted one of the top 10 canoe circuits in the world by Outside Magazine, Wells is the perfect place to host your next event. Comfortable hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, campgrounds and great restaurants cater to a range of preferences. There is a wide variety of stores and visitor services available to meet your every need. Wells is the place for both summer and winter activities and entertainment. Wells is home to a thriving artisan community. Heritage buildings frame this town's scenic mountain backdrop. Follow the footpath to view the works of emerging and professional BC artists at several local galleries throughout Wells. On display you'll find a unique range of pottery, photography and paintings as well as special exhibitions. Leave time to pick out a unique piece of work from the gallery gift shops! BarkervilleOver 140 years later people from around the world are still thronging to western Canada’s largest Heritage attraction. The site is open year round, but interpretation and visitor services are only available from the middle of May through until the end of September. On top of the opening weekend festivities there are special events throughout the year, with Dominion Day on July 1st, and the Victorian Christmas in December, offering plenty of fun for the entire family. Plan to spend at least two days exploring over 100 historic buildings with displays. There is live entertainment at the Theatre Royal, guided tours, street theatre and demonstrations by costumed animators. Kids love riding the stagecoach and panning for gold. Visit the Sheepskin Claim and see the huge Cornish Pump in operation. |
