Anahim Lake

Anahim Lake is located about 312 km west of Williams Lake, a 15 minute drive west of Nimpo Lake. It is the largest settlement in the West Chilcotin and home to the Anahim Lake Rodeo – held every July and probably the most well known event in the area. With daily flights from Vancouver International Airport, Anahim Lake offers superb fishing, with fly-fishing in the Upper Dean River. There is horse and hiking access to the three main mountain ranges of the area – the Itcha Range, the Ilgachuz Range and the multi-coloured Rainbow Mountains in Tweedsmuir Park. The snowmobiling and cross-country skiing areas are major winter attractions.

Nearby Anahim Peak which is part of Tweedsmuir Park offers a bit of history plus a spectacular view of a pillared cone of volcanic rock; this is another site for obsidian, the important trading commodity for the Chilcotins as it was used extensively for weapon making.
