Flight Services at Williams Lake Airport

Services at the Williams Lake Regional Airport will remain as they are, at least for now, says NAV CANADA, which has decided to defer further studies on the airport and its flight services station until at least fall of 2010."I think our staff will be really happy about that," Ligertwood says. "It's good for the flying public. It means that level of safety will remain at least until then (fall 2010)." He says while he doesn't know why NAV CANADA made the decision, he says it may be due to political pressure NAV CANADA and the federal government received.
A local coalition, including Cariboo Regional District chair Al Richmond, had been formed to lobby to keep the services.

Tourism Industry Association of Canada - B.C. Government Trips Up on Tourism B.C. Decision; Tourism Stumbles

The Tourism Industry Association of Canada is shocked and disappointed by the recent announcement by the Government of British Columbia to dissolve the province's tourism marketing organization, Tourism British Columbia.

"The B.C. government's unilateral and sudden decision to dissolve Tourism British Columbia demonstrates a total lack of appreciation for the industry-leading work that this organization has done on the province's behalf," said TIAC President and CEO Randy Williams. "Tourism has a profound impact on the economy in B.C., and the dismantling of this award-winning tourism marketing organization will set the industry in the province back by a decade." Read more

B.C. STRENGTHENS AND ALIGNS TOURISM PROMOTION

IMPORTANT: Tourism British Columbia Update

VICTORIA - On Monday the government of B.C. announced that Tourism BC will be brought into the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts. We want to reassure industry stakeholders that it is "business as usual" and that all current marketing programs are fully operational.

We understand this announcement came suddenly to many in the tourism sector. We want to stress that the Province continues to support a strong tourism industry with innovative and consistent branding and marketing programs.

We have already begun consulting with industry with the goal of making the transition efficiently, and we expect full integration to be completed by April 1, 2010.

We will advise Industry stakeholders of any changes to Tourism BC activities as key decisions are made.

For more information on Tourism BC programs and activities, go to www.tourismbc.com.

EU-Canada aviation agreement

A breakthrough in the EU-Canada negotiations on a large aviation agreement was made on 9 December. Negotiators from the EU and Canada had initialled a few days ago a comprehensive agreement on air services in line with the conclusions of the EU-Canada summit on 17 October. The agreement will be a major step in the opening of markets and investment opportunities. It both completes the transatlantic market started with the EU-US first stage aviation agreement, and goes well beyond it. The agreement will generate major benefits for both partners' consumers, airlines and broader economies.

Business Essentials Workshop

Who's interested in a Business Essentials Workshop and the Advanced Business Essentials Workshop?
The Business Essentials Workshop has been designed to teach participants the basics of packaging including how to develop products and packages, how to package with other suppliers and how to effectively price for different sales channels. The workshop will also address the basic elements of marketing and sales including determining market demand, working with tour operators, working with municipal, regional, provincial and federal tourism offices, exhibiting at trade shows and other relevant sales activities. Participants will practice developing and pricing a package and walk through the steps of distributing this through the many sales channels.
The Advanced Business Essentials goes into how to develop the necessary relationships to create distribution partners for tourism products or services. This workshop is geared toward businesses looking to expand their marketing reach. This hands-on, tactical workshop focuses on the skills required to make contact with the potential partner, present the product offering and create an agreement. Ideally, participants taking this advanced workshop will have taken the introductory course or are actively pursuing packaging agreements with business partners.
Each course is 3 hours in length.
Miriam and Kim are gathering information, and we would like to know if anyone is interested in these Tourism BC Workshops. We are hoping to hold the workshops in each of the sub-regions however; locations will be dependent on interest. Email either Miriam or Kim.
