From Amy's Desk - CCCTA 2011 AGM News

A big thank you to the staff at Cariboo Chilcotin Coast and the Hills Health Ranch & Spa for their efforts to host the 2011 Regional Tourism Conference & AGM! As well my regards to each of you who made the journey to learn and participate at this year’s event – the collective knowledge is invaluable and brings a dynamic atmosphere to the workshops.

With an excellent line up of speakers, the feedback from those in attendance has been outstanding. “The photography slide shows (workshop) were worth the price of admission!” You will be receiving a survey to gather input as we expand our delivery for future years and I look forward to your suggestions on growing this valuable event.

Amy's travel

I had a very busy summer getting out and about in the region, both on official trips and during family time. If I have not yet found the opportunity to visit your business I am looking forward to connecting!

The team is busy wrapping up the final details on the Travel Guide, as well as, preparing for upcoming shows. I will be representing the region with Geoff at Canada’s West Marketplace and am pleased to share that the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast will be featured during the BC lunch. In early December I will be attending the Sport Fishing Institute Policy Conference and the National Touring Association convention. Watch for upcoming news items!

The CCCTA has an employment opportunity for a Project Manager    See details

From Travel Media - Geoff's Desk

Looking for new and reworked story ideas for upcoming travel media projects:
For years the CCCTA has been dedicated to presenting various regional travel stories to international, national, regional and local travel media at a variety of venues. In 2012 we will be in Seattle mid January wooing Pacific Northwest Journalist’s, courting the world at Canada’s Media Marketplace in San Francisco early April and Whitehorse in May attending the GoMedia Canada event. Closer to home we will be after the Lower Mainland and Alberta markets media attention in May & June.

With an eye on efficiency, it would be fantastic if you could supply us with links to any new packages, pictures and story ideas that you are working on for 2012. It is also important to inform us if you have discontinued products, packages or services so we don’t pitch out dated information!

Canada’s Media Marketplace and Gomedia Canada - Long and short haul markets
Sponsored by the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) and other major Canadian tourism industry partners; Editors, Publishers, Writers, Bloggers, Photographer and Videographers as well as TV, Radio and Web Travel Show Hosts from around the world are invited to meet with Canadian tourism business owners, PR firm representatives along with Provincial, Regional & City DMO’s from across our country. Many of the “Long and Short Haul” markets covered by the attending media at the CTC events are; USA, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, UK, Germany, Australia, France, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Japan, Korea and China.

During these highly competitive events hundreds of the most sought after travel media meet with approximately  two hundred industry representatives in literally thousands of 15 minute one on one meetings. Taking advantage of having many of the worlds elite travel media assembled together for two days there are always excellent workshops and discussion groups covering the latest trends and challenges to help teach us Canadians how to best compete in the ever-changing landscape of information, technology and economics.

Calgary, Vancouver and Seattle-Pacific Northwest - Close-in markets
The CCCTA also attends smaller travel media events aimed at the “Close In” markets of Alberta, the Lower Mainland and Pacific Northwest where we pitch our regions tourism offerings in concert with the other Regions, Cities and Provincial representatives.
With a little more time to interact with each other the pace of these meetings is much more casual but no less competitive amongst the attendees.

Unique, intriguing engaging experiences… and great value.
When considering what information to send us regarding your line-up of offerings for the upcoming season remember; what differentiates us from the rest of the world really does appeal to our travellers. That and great deals… it seems that we cannot supply the media enough “specials” to feed their customers “top twenty” lists.

Brad's Marketing Update

We are proud and thrilled to announce that Tourism British Columbia has confirmed our 2011 Travel & Touring Guide is currently the most distributed, number one requested Travel Guide of any of BC’s six tourism regions!  Our complete re-design of the guide in 2011, focusing on a cleaner look with stunning imagery, engaging editorial and adventure tourism activities from throughout our incredible region seems to be paying off.  If you’ve not already seen it, you can view the 2011 Travel & Touring Guide online here: CCC Online Travel and Touring Guide
Our goal for the 2012 Travel & Touring Guide is to raise the bar and produce an even stronger product that will be sure to lure more travellers to our region and spend longer periods of time enjoying it while they are here.

Winter seems to have arrived in the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast region and we are gearing up for a long one.  The CCCTA marketing department is very busy with several projects on the go.  Production and design are well underway for the 2012 Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Travel & Touring Guide.

We are also currently into production of the 2012 Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Map Pads.  This extremely popular product will once again be viewed as an excellent reference map of our vast region for consumers, tour receptors and travel trade. Stakeholder response has been fantastic, as this marketing product has once again sold out.  New in 2012, the Map Pad will also be in virtual format on-line with live links to advertiser websites, so both the Travel & Touring Guide and Map Pad will be viewable and downloadable online around the globe.

Social Media is growing and gaining in significance worldwide.  The CCCTA will be working hard to develop our new social media marketing plans as we enter 2012.  We encourage all of our stakeholders and visitors to post pictures, stories and information on our new CCCTA Face Book, Twitter and YouTube channels. The more everyone boasts about the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast, the more visitors from around the world will want to come and discover us!

Examples of other “Tourism Partner” marketing campaigns upcoming, or in the works are:

  • RV West Magazine’s winter issue widely distributed at upcoming consumer and trade shows.
  • Snoriders West Magazine’s winter issue targeting BC snowmobilers.

Projects, Website & More - Kim's Workings

I'm back :) and I'm looking forward to working with you all again.

Japanese student’s interests include ranches and farms
We have received interest in farm and ranch stays for groups of students which could be range from 20 - 50 high school students (ages 16-18) and university students (ages18-22). What we are looking for is “export ready” properties that are willing to participate in this program by having the students stay for an average of 2-3 days, but could be up to a week learning about ranching and farming. Down time would consist of other activities to enhance the tourism experience. If you don’t have the room, this could be the perfect time to buddy up with an export ready neighbour and split the group, the request here is for the properties to be within 1 hour of each other.

Are you an adventure operator that holds a tenure? If you are we would like to hear from you. There is no cost to you help with trail building etc. Drop me an email kim@landwithoutlimits.com or give me a call 250-392-2226 ext 204.
